Mercedes-Benz's GLE 350d occupies a masterful position in the luxury SUV market — it is simultaneously the most technologically sophisticated and the most refined vehicle in its class. The new W167 generation, represented by this 2021 unit, introduces E-Active Body Control suspension as an option, a system so advanced it can read the road surface ahead via cameras and pre-emptively adjust each wheel individually.

Power comes from the OM656 straight-six diesel, a 3.0-litre unit with twin-scroll turbocharging producing 272hp and 600Nm. Paired with the nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox, it delivers effortless performance with the kind of hushed refinement that makes a Nairobi traffic jam almost bearable.

The AMG Line specification adds 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, AMG body styling with a distinct front apron, and AMG interior trim with aluminium accents throughout. The twin 12.3-inch MBUX screens dominate the cockpit, offering an intuitive user experience that makes rival infotainment systems feel a generation behind.
